Our very first overnight train experience in Europe! We booked a deluxe sleeper cabin on the ÖBB Nightjet from Vienna to Milan and brought our dog along with us. The cabin had everything we needed - beds that folded down, a private bathroom with shower, and complimentary breakfast. We got to relax in the ÖBB Lounge in Vienna before boarding and were given sparkling wine for the journey. Making up the beds and figuring out luggage storage was chaotic but fun. Eating our train dinner, watching the scenery go by, and then waking up on board and having breakfast served in our cabin made for a very unique experience. After 13 hours, we arrived in a rainy Milan feeling tired but glad we tried European overnight trains! Have you experienced an overnight train? How do you like them? First Time Taking an Overnight Train in Europe (ÖBB Nightjet Deluxe Cabin Vienna to Milan)
We've decided it's time for a proper British holiday. Since we don't have any plans to visit the UK anytime soon, we're recreating that experience in the next best place - Victoria, British Columbia. Our goal is to immerse ourselves in British culture and traditions as much as possible during our time in this charming city. We start by indulging in a quintessential afternoon tea at the renowned Butchart Gardens. We also explore Victoria's picturesque city center, including the Parliament building, Chinatown, and pub scene. Finding British Food in an American Grocery Store (2024 Update)
Today we are experiencing Budapest by taking you along on a Budapest food tour, tasting iconic Hungarian street foods for the first time. We start our day trying the famous strudel, rétes, with a poppy seed filling. We also sample some traditional langos (fried dough with sour cream and cheese). We visit a butcher shop to try Hungarian blood sausage, liver sausage, and paprika sausage, before trying a delightful cinnamon chimney cake fresh from the oven. Then we sampled a unique dumpling called túrógombóc made with potato dough and fresh cheese (recommended by our friends who are locals) . We end our day with classic Hungarian dishes like chicken paprikash and stuffed cabbage at a restaurant overlooking the Basilica. Have a recommendation for a food we should try?
